happy halloween.

1st and 2nd period: UNIT 2 review packet...do #1-9 for MM1A2 c. if you finish all 13 of those problems for our pink standard, you'll get extra credit. however, do not move on in the packet! stick with those first 3 standards (we did MM1A2 a and MM1A2 b in class). practice, practice, practice. click on the links on the right to get extra practice with radicals and polynomials!

3rd period: you technically do not have homework since you won the class competition! BUT i would STRONGLY suggest that you also work on those first 3 standards. i know you want to get a good grade on the test, so put in that extra effort :)

hope everyone has a great weekend dressing up in fun costumes and trick-or-treating!!! if you get sick off candy and can't eat it anymore, donate it to my candy jar :)

and now UNIT 2 is complete.

we finished learning the last concept of UNIT 2 (adding/subtracting rational expressions), so the next few days we will be reviewing UNIT 2. UNIT 2 involved lots of algebra: polynomials, radical expressions, and rational expressions. we covered 7 Georgia Performance Standards in this UNIT. when we test on thursday, you are expected to master each of these standards.

homework: 5 problems from the board (adding/subtracting rational expressions with binomials or special products in the denominator). you should have copied these during class!!!

3rd period won this week's class competition!!! great job solving the weekly challenge problem and coming to tutorial!

"smush" the denominators together.

today we worked on adding/subtracting rational expressions with "unlike" denominators. the secret to getting like denominators: smooooosh those denominators together!

HW: p. 173 #13, 14, 18 and p. 174 #7, 8 , 9

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

kind of like fractions.

today we took notes on adding and subtracting rational expressions. in your textbook, do p. 173 #1-6 and p. 174 #1-3. each of these have "like" denominators.

change of tutorial hours: i was not able to have tutorial today due to a meeting after school. i will have tutorial tomorrow after school. please plan on coming!

looking ahead: UNIT 2 Test on thursday, november 4.

Monday, October 25, 2010

products and quotients.

on the multiplying/dividing rational expressions worksheet, finish any problems that you did not do in your stations. simplify alllll the way. don't forget for dividing: keep, change, flip.

also, this week is national drug-free week. SADD is asking that students wear pink tomorrow in support of this!

Thursday, October 21, 2010

review those rationals.

homework: review of rationals. you get to choose any 10 problems from the review worksheet that you want to do. any extras that you do will be extra credit.

we will review the first half of class, so please come with any questions you have. after we review, you will take your "show me what you know..."!

2nd period won this week's class competition! they did an excellent job of turning in lots and lots of homework!!! congrats to every class for solving the weekly challenge problem. so, so smart :)

special products.

on the back of our notes handout (notes: special products-rational expressions) do #4-12.

tomorrow i have tutorial in the morning at 7:30am and also after school. please plan on coming to one (or both!) tutorial sessions to get help on simplifying rational expressions.

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

simplifying rationals.

homework tonight is to completely finish the simplifying rationals worksheet. a lot of you came to tutorial today and already finished it!

we will continue practicing this tomorrow, and then we will move on to multiplication and division of rational expressions on thursday.

see you tomorrow!

candy corn bingo.

on friday, we played candy corn bingo in class to review simplifying radicals. i called out square root problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. after students simplified the square root, they looked to see if it was on their bingo board. if they had it, they placed a candy corn over the box!

hope you had a great weekend. no homework (unless you had make-up work!)

Thursday, October 14, 2010

what an interesting day...

1st and 2nd period: p. 144 #2-14 even, 20-24 even --- tomorrow we will have a "show me what you know..." over square roots. we will review for a little bit, so please come to class with specific questions.

thank you 2nd period for entertaining ms. weekes and me allllll day long! you were a lot of fun and had great attitudes through it all. some of you (notice i didn't say all of you) have great singing/dancing talent :) we were quite impressed!! see you again tomorrow (hopefully only from 9:46-11:16)!!!

3rd period: well, i guess you don't have any homework since i didn't ever get to see you...just study for the quiz tomorrow!!

since tutorial was cancelled today, you can come tomorrow morning at 7:30am.

outsmart the test.

today, we reviewed division of radicals. then we took some time to look at how to "outsmart" multiple choice tests (you'll be taking the Unit 2 test in a few weeks!). since multiple choice tests have the correct answer staring you right in the face, you need to be a smart test taker and be able to get rid of wrong answers (known as "distractors"). we worked on practicing with calculators to narrow down multiple choice answers for problems dealing with square roots. good testing techniques will help you on EOCT's, PSAT's, SAT's, ACT's, etc.

1st and 2nd period:
do #1-10 on the back of the Radical Multiple Choice WS.

3rd period: #10-18 divide square roots

Monday, October 11, 2010

rationalize.

1st and 2nd period: #10-18 (divide square roots). simplify all the way. rationalize the denominator if necessary. try all of them!

3rd period: #1-9 (multiply square roots).

don't forget...multiply (or divide) inside stuff with inside stuff and outside stuff with outside stuff.

i have tutorial tomorrow afternoon! please come!!!

Friday, October 8, 2010

longggg weekend. :)

hope you enjoy your day off of school today!

homework: finish the multiplication problems on the back of your Square Root worksheet.

all next week, we will continue working with square roots. click on the link on the right that says "practice with radicals." if you do any of the practice quizzes, print it off and bring it to school on monday so i can give you some extra credit!

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

operations with radicals.

today, we worked on standards MM1A2 b which deals with operations of square roots (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). your homework is to do all the odd problems on the worksheet (just skip the division problems because we didn't get to that!)

also, tomorrow marks the end of the 9 weeks. you will be getting an individual grade print out, so you know what grade to expect on your progress report.

since it is the end of the 9 weeks, our class competition is coming to an end. 3rd period pulled out the win!! you got over 200 points! you will celebrate tomorrow during your class (don't forget to bring the snacks you signed up for...and bring money for pizza if you want some!)

on monday, we will start the class competition all over again. so get ready to earn your class some points!!!

Monday, October 4, 2010

binomial theorem.

today we learned a shortcut for multiplying polynomials: binomial theorem! look over the problems we did in class, and then do these for homework... ( i think these were the ones i wrote on the board...)

homework:
1. (x + 2)^5
2. (x - y)^5
3. (x + 1)^5

homecoming.

hope you all had fun at the homecoming parade, football game, and dance! i love that almost everyone in my 3 classes wore red and black on friday!! lots of school spirit!!!

since it was homecoming weekend, there was no homework!

here are some snapshots that i took on friday...
freshmen float...sophomore float...
junior float...
senior float...
