hope everyone had a great weekend. wasn't it beautiful outside?? and aren't you glad you didn't have any homework over the weekend?!

Math 1B
today we began our last standard in UNIT 4...mean absolute deviation (or MAD, as we like to call it). we didn't get a chance to get too deep into the lesson, so you do not have homework tonight. we'll hit the ground running tomorrow, so be ready!

just a heads up...we will review statistics on wednesday, and then you will test on Thursday.

Math 1A
today we took notes on rate of change, and we practiced calculating slope.

homework: Mean Problems WS ...no pun intended :)

Math 1A
today we went over the homework and then spent the rest of the time working on basic math skills. no homework for you!

congrats to 3rd period for FINALLY winning the weekly class competition. it was reallllllly close. you will get a treat in class tomorrow!

comparing data.

Math 1B
today we practiced more with box-and-whisker plots. then we worked on comparing two data sets (comparing their spread of data, skew, etc.).

homework: Assessing Box-and-Whisker Plots (comparing two data sets.) you must write a paragraph comparing the two. write as much as you can!!

Math 1A
today we defined end behavior and maximum/minimum points for functions.

homework: Lesson Practice (multiple choice worksheet)

box-and-whisker.

Math 1B
today we reviewed all that statistics stuff you learned back in middle school...mean, median, mode, range, box-and-whisker plots.

homework: Box-and-Whisker Plot worksheet

Math 1A
we're moving right along on our UNIT 1 standards. we completed the first three, and we are now on the 4th...characteristics of functions. today we took notes on domain, range, zeros, y-intercepts, and intervals of increase/decrease.

homework: characteristics of functions WS #1-3

thanks to all the parents who came to parent-teacher conferences today! if you weren't able to come, please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns. you can e-mail me at katie_m_koerten@fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us

happy valentine's day.

hope you've had a happy valentine's day!!!

Math 1B
today we talked about the statistics definitions that you all defined on Friday.

homework: last page of statistics packet (#6-11) which deals with biased samples and biased questions.

Math 1A
today we reviewed transformations and then quizzed at the end of the class. tomorrow we will be talking about characteristics of functions.

wrap it up.

Math 1B
lots to do as we wrap up probability and begin statistics...

1) you were given your grade print-outs with alternate assignments to make up failing grades. all make-up work for 4.5 grading period is due on Wednesday. all make-ups for quiz 1 and 2 have to be done by Friday.

2) if you did not master all your standards for probability, you need to complete the standards packet. this is due by Wednesday.

3) in class today, you should have completed the statistics worksheets (definitions + examples). if you did not, you need to finish this by Monday!

Math 1A
congrats on winning the class competition! no homework for you :)

Thursday, February 10, 2011

improvement.

Math 1B
today we re-tested, and almost everyone improved their scores. way to go! those test grades will go into eSIS tomorrow, so you can get a more accurate idea of your grade in my class.

if you still did not master all the standards, you will need to complete the standards packet.

Math 1A
today we started transformations: vertical shifts, stretches, shrinks, and reflections.

HW: Matching Transformation WS

congrats to 2nd period for winning their first class competition!!! you will get your treat tomorrow!

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

retest tomorrow.

Math 1B
today we did our group presentations, which served as a review for probability. tomorrow you will re-test and we'll begin the second part of UNIT 4 (statistics!).

homework: study, study, study. the way you study for math is to work out problems. work through ALL the problems on your test. if you know how to work those out, you'll do great on the re-test.

Math 1A
today we finished our function collages. tomorrow we will start function transformations.

...unless we get snow tonight :)

refocusing on probability.

MATH 1B

since the Mid-UNIT 4 tests on probability were not very good, we are continuing to work on probability. we will re-test on thursday, so you need to be studying your review and test. i expect much better grades on thursday!

today in class you started working on your group presentations. each group received a task/standard that you will be teaching to the class tomorrow. you need to finish up your project for homework and have an idea of what you're teaching the class.

MATH 1A

today we started the function collages of all 6 of our basic functions. you will continue to work on these tomorrow. you can still bring in magazines for extra credit!!

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Math 1B (1st and 3rd period):
we finished up expected value today, and then we began to review for our UNIT 4 mid-test on Friday!

homework: UNIT 4 Review Packet...#36-42 (standard MM1D2 d)

Math 1A (2nd period):
homework: on the linear functions worksheet, make a table for y = -x and y = 4x, and then graph the functions.

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

what's expected.

Math 1B (1st and 3rd period):
today we took notes on expected value (the long term average outcome of a given scenario).

MEMORIZE: O x P, then ADD. (outcome times probability...then add them all up!)

homework: Expected Value WS #1 and #2 only

Math 1A (2nd period):
tomorrow you will continue doing your group presentations. then we will move on to talking about our 6 basic functions.

Monday, January 31, 2011

there's a condition.

Math 1B: (1st and 3rd period)
today we learned about conditional probability --- "the probability of A, given B."

homework: GO #5 - we did the front in class, so you need to do the back (#1-7) for homework!

*for extra practice, check out the link on the right under "UNIT 4 extra practice"*
